London based Tom Misch is accumulating legions of followers across the social realms of the interwebs, steadily growing with each new release of his soulful brand of laid-back, jazz infused hip-hop. The multi-talented 19 year old composer, songwriter, singer and instrumentalist is without doubt a rising force that progressively demonstrates his emerging mastery on each new track. His latest, ‘Karma‘ featuring fellow Londoner MC Loyle Carner is no exception to this. Swirling electric keys and an arpeggiated sitar frame Misch’s swooning lullaby vocals, working hypnotically to draw you in and get lost in the layered soundscape. Industrial hip-hop beats and sultry guitar wind to Carner’s spits which work powerfully over jazz chords. This beautifully produced clash of genres comes across effortlessly, making for a blissed-out and sedating listen. Structurally, the song takes some cool and unexpected turns, but unfortunately it’s over way too quickly. Although I tend to avoid similarities with other artists, there’s some real King Krule meets Chet Faker vibes on ‘Karma’ – a combination of two of my favourite artists which is too exciting to ignore.
