Thrown
Kiasmos is a collaboration between Olafur Arnalds and Janus Rasmussen, and on this EP they’ve got a couple of their own silky melodic techno cuts and high calibre remixes from spacebarphobes FaltyDL and 65daysofstatic. Their tracks are quite minimal but still have a smooth, bouncy feel, with ‘Thrown’ being shimmering and melodic like a softer, smoother Fourtet and ‘Wrecked’ being on more of a dark minimal late-night techno tip with throbbing melodies and soft droning minor-chord synths and distant arpeggiated unease. The 65dos remix focuses some more on those arpeggios with some Blade Runner electro-whooshes and a Carpenter-esque bass throb which is then lifted into almost Balearic territory with the addition of a clicky beat and some uplifting synth. It’s a really interesting reinvention and completely turns the mood of the piece on its head. Both the originals and the mixes on here are worth your time and neither of the mixes is particularly typical of the remixers’ other work.
