French indie pop singer Héloïse Letissier, otherwise known as Christine and the Queens, has already become a nationally recognized musician in her native country. Now with her debut album Chaleaur Humaine being re-released in English later this year and the new EP Saint Claude in stores this spring, expect to hear more from Letissier’s unique, low-key pop. The first sampling of the EP’s minimalistic but danceable melodies and beats can be heard on her debut U.S. single “Tilted,” which has just recently premiered with Noisey. Saint Claude will be released on April 14 via Neon Gold and Atlantic Records. In the last few years Neon Gold has gained an impressive array of overseas pop artists such as Ellie Goulding and Charli XCX, offering them additional exposure to U.S. listeners. Recently, Neon Gold commented in a press release that they’re “over the moon to release her to American audiences for the first time.” Chaleur Humaine, the full-length album that started it all, originally included songs combining both French and English. In France, the album has sold over 300,000 copies. Just last month Christine and the Queens already won Best Female Artist and Video of the Year at the Victoires de La Musique, which is the French equivalent of the Grammys. Other artists such as Lorde, Madonna, and Mark Ronson have praised Christine and the Queen's unique and charming pop. Her memorable stage name is a poignant reference to the drag queens in London that inspired her to start singing. Describing her identity on stage with the Guardian, the androgynous singer said "real life is art on the stage; I want to disappear into it. I don't like me, but I like what I become when I make something." Letissier will have plenty of chances to become something new as she makes her debut U.S. performance at SXSW in Austin, Texas this month before continuing on a short U.S. run in support of Marina and the Diamonds, who is also partnered with Neon Gold.
