California Pop is the brain child birthed at a low point in commercial rap. It is a tribute to your radio station and the hip-hop that Clear Channel tells it to play. It is a reaction to the notion of formula, and the idea that as long as it bumps who give a sh*t what they're talking about. It is a shameless celebration of American music during a dark time of spiritual and political turmoil. While many independent artists spend a lot of their time pointing out and heckling the flaws of commercial music the makers of California Pop embrace them. While some underground rappers make whole careers out of criticizing the music business and it's rules rapper Dublin cloaks himself in the sex, and violence of mainstream rap. He does his best to follow all the rules of radio rap culture and cliche. The story of this project is the story of his dramatic failure. California Pop is an album all its own sound. Dublin teams up with Woody, Ross, Vanessa, and George to create a unique blend of beats and rhymes that pushes the border between parody and heartfelt sentiment.
