On Jordans Stormy Banks
On Jordans Stormy Banks is a collaboration between chart-topping vocalist Donna Lewis and acoustic guitarist Mark Mollica, pulling together strands of hymnal, gospel, and jazz harmony, all under Lewis’s distinctively intimate vocal style. Donna Lewis has enjoyed a career marked by a number of distinctive milestones, most visibly being the radio record-breaking hit I Love You Always Forever. But the Welsh native is an artist of many dimensions, as she has demonstrated with efforts ranging from At The Beginning, her charming duet with Richard Marx from the Anastasia soundtrack to Be Still, her lovely voice and piano album. True to it's title, her eagerly awaited new album Brand New Day, due for release in 2014, is a striking departure from anything else she has done before. Brooklyn-based guitarist Mark Mollica, though focused primarily in the jazz idiom, has sought more and more opportunities to branch into acoustic, singer-songwriter, and rock contexts. His arrangement here, a request from the musical director of St. Peter’s, Manhattan’s storied “Jazz Church”, seemed like a perfect opportunity for some genre-bending musical fusion, and he is delighted to have the chance to document it here with Donna Lewis. His upcoming release Lift, due in 2014, will showcase more of his writing, and features some of jazz’s finest talent.
