G'day Mate G'day
The single 'G'day Mate G'day', is the lead song in an Australian Cultural Musical of the same name. The catchy melody of this song in particular, represents the true spirit of the Australian people. The full musical 'G'day Mate G'day', is a production that relives the incredible voyage of the first settlers from Portsmouth, England in 1787. It reflects the impact their arrival had on the Aboriginal tribes who lived in the areas of Botany Bay and Sydney Cove. The lyrics and the music tell the stories of both groups, and their survival, against the odds. This includes the sailors, the marines, the settlers, the government officials, the convicts, and the aboriginal people. The melodies are catchy and creative. The musical offers an engaging way for students to learn about the cultural differences, colonial history, geographical exploration, and environmental issues. Each scene tells a story, therefore the musical can be broken down to form separate sessions or school assembly presentations.
