"Express Yourself" is a song by American recording artist Madonna from her fourth studio album Like a Prayer. It was released as the second single from the album on May 9, 1989 by Sire Records. It appeared on a Japanese extended play entitled Remixed Prayers later that year. The song appears on the greatest hits compilation albums The Immaculate Collection (1990), while an abridged version of the video edit appears on Celebration (2009). Written and produced in collaboration with Stephen Bray, "Express Yourself" is a dance-pop song which preaches female empowerment. The song is composed in the key of G major and has a tempo of 120 beats per minute.[1] Its accompanying video is often regarded as one of the greatest of all time.[2] Madonna has performed the song on the Blond Ambition World Tour, The Girlie Show World Tour, the Re-Invention Tour, and the Sticky & Sweet Tour. The song has left a legacy, being considered a feminist anthem, and was covered by the Glee cast in "The Power of Madonna" episode.
