Let's Talk About the Blues

Charismatic and handsome Deacon Jones is an underground legend, wildly popular in Europe and South America, but one of the USA's best kept secrets. A true "musician's musician," Deacon has been mentored by the best: twenty years with the revered " King of the Boogie," JOHN LEE HOOKER, serving as band leader, MC, merchandise manager, and of course, organ player; Deacon and HOOK were the best of friends. JOHN LEE HOOKER paid Deacon the highest possible accolade: when asked by a journalist who the best organ player in the world was, HOOK replied, unequivocally, "Deacon Jones." It is a little known fact that Deacon also wrote John Lee Hooker's favorite song in the world, the haunting, poignant " We'll Meet Again." The song appeared on Hooker's " Chill Out" CD, which won a well deserved Grammy and went multi platinum. Before his John Lee Hooker apprenticeship for stardom Deacon worked with guitar/ vocal legend, the great FREDDIE KING. It was FREDDIE KING who in Deacon's words, taught him to "Eat, sleep, walk, talk, and live the blues." FREDDIE KING made a blues man out of Deacon, who had previously worked with the famed singer, CURTIS MAYFIELD, and his band, the IMPRESSIONS. CURTIS MAYFIELD was so impressed by Deacon that he hired him, not just for his band....(Deacon at that time played trumpet, but began playing organ with FREDDIE KING) but as an A&R man for CURTIS' label CURTOM RECORDS. Deacon's first band, BABY HUEY AND THE BABYSITTERS was an underground cult sensation in Chicago. The band, barely out of their teens were packing in crowds at the popular nite spot, THUMBS UP, when spotted by a Parisian talent scout. Before they knew it, they had been whisked away to Paris, there to perform for the debutante ball of the Baron de Rothchild's daughter. It was the first of many, many trips and tors for Deacon, who has worn through six passports. Austria, Azerbajian, Australia and above all, Arentina (where he has an enormously strong fan base, largely through his, " Blues Brother," Argentine legend, PAPPO, and his friend, BOTAFOGO...); Brazil, Canada, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Japan....well, you get the picture. Catch Deacon in performance if you possibly can. Soon to come: Deacon is in the studio now working on his third CD. " IF THE BLUES WAS MONEY, I'D BE A MILLIONAIRE." The title song, (co-written by yours truly, Pamela Hill, manager/muse/nursemaid and tender of the Deacon Blues flame;) has been recorded by the fabulous EDDIE MONEY!!! San Fransico is buzzin' that the Deakster has struck gold this time, so stay tuned.
