biography As a teenager, Michelangelo was inspired to play the guitar by a legendary Irish rock band during their rendition of Curtis Mayfield's gospel favorite "People Get Ready". The experience triggered a desire in his heart which began nearly 2 decades of musical ministry. Shortly after this experience, Michelangelo formed one of Arizona’s premier alternative Christian rock bands, Michelangelo and The Difference. His band's self-described style of "remo rock" (short for reflective modern rock) captured the musical inventiveness of bands like U2 and Radiohead and the lyrical acuity of artists like Elvis Costello. Since his musical journeys inception, Michelangelo has shared stages with luminaries like DC Talk, Third Day and The Newsboys. His musical works have garnered fans throughout the world as he has have been distributed throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe by some of the biggest players in the music industry: Warner Electric Atlantic (WEA), Alliance, and BMG. But these years have not been spent trying to become "rock star". "Everything's worth it when I see people tune deep into what's being said at my shows," says Michelangelo. "Many times I have prayed with kids and adults who were hurting and needed someone to lead them to a deeper relationship with God." Over the years Michelangelo has toured playing hundreds of engagements a year at venues ranging from church basements and crowded coffeehouses to some of the biggest Christian festivals in the country. “This recording has been in the back of my mind for the last fifteen years,” Michelangelo states. “I wanted to capture the sound and spirit of my two musical loves - acoustic and gospel”. “This project is about coming away from the things that pull us down, leaving our own desires and looking around to the needs of others” Michelangelo said. The Apostle Paul wrote in Hebrews 13:11-14 (New King James Version) 11 For the bodies of those animals, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned outside the camp. 12 Therefore Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people with His own blood, suffered outside the gate. 13 Therefore let us go forth to Him, outside the camp, bearing His reproach. 14 For here we have no continuing city, but we seek the one to come. ***************** As I have played over a thousand concerts in the last 20 years, I have been drawn to the most personal and memorable times playing music. The large venues and sound equipment with the shining lights were cool, but I believe the lasting value of my music has been when I have set up and played face to face with people from all walks of life. Someone giving their precious moments of time to listen and tune deeply into what I am singing is truly an honor. The Come Away Project record was inspired from my latest trip to Israel. I realized that just like the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, people have many priorities of what they believe is the most important thing or place to be in life. Jesus has called his believers to follow Him wherever He leads. When the world is going its own way, Christ is calling us to come away from our comfort zone, our religious life styles and selfish desires. Let us come away to Him and embrace the Hope and Life He brings. The Come Away Project was birthed from an idea: to simply work with a few leaders in a local area and perform in their homes or intimate settings for their friends and neighbors.
