Shostakovich: Symphony No. 7 in C Major "Leningrad", Op. 60 –The Legendary 1953 Mravinsky Recording
Legendary Soviet-era conductor Evgeny Mravinsky was composer Dmitri Shostakovich's preferred conductor. In 1953, Mravinsky made his only recording of one of Shostakovich's most popular works — the epic-length "Leningrad" Symphony, composed during the height of the **** siege on that city. The recording has achieved legendary status among lovers of the music of Shostakovich and fans of Mravinsky — partially because previous releases were short-lived and copies became hard to find. Vanguard Classics, which was the first label to release this recording outside the Warsaw Pact in 1957, is pleased to announce the reissue of this legendary studio recording in a new high-definition remastering effected in 2019, which greatly improves the sonic quality and clarity over previous reissues.
