Xana
Emerging from Saskatchewan’s rapidly rising urban and electronic scene, XANA reveals herself as the prairies’ next prominent female electro-pop artist. As a Canadian recording and performing singer-songwriter, XANA takes an autobiographical approach to songwriting, delivering personally-entwined lyrics through emotional and sincere vocal delivery. Her tempestuous, introspective brand of electro-pop has been likened to that of contemporary female alt-pop artists such as Halsey, Banks, and Ellie Goulding. After a series of single releases, and having been previously nominated for a Toronto Independent Artist Award, XANA prepares for the release of her first collection of music, XANA. Her debut, self-titled EP, produced in collaboration with Juno-nominated producer, Jared Robinson of Nebulus Entertainment, speaks as a sincere, unapologetic dialogue with herself. Having previously been selected as one of the few successful applicants of the Canadian Songwriting Challenge two years in a row, as well as first place winner in the Deja Vu Cafe Songwriter Showcase, XANA drives the EP’s songwriting through honest lyricism and emotive storytelling. In her narratives, XANA bares her soul, expressing a frail, yet genuine vulnerability, which speaks to the unfeigned anxieties of millennials. Her stories are carried by ambient instrumental dreamscapes, consisting of 90’s-inspired Rhodes synths, aggressive 808 percussion, and delicately textured harmonies. This sultry, yet visceral combination of sounds effectively blend elements of contemporary, new-wave genres such as electronica, alt-pop, modern-soul, and indie-R&B. These songs are fully realized in XANA’s live stage performance, where she integrates live beat sampling and intricately processed instruments, as well as her dance background and her quirky personality. This captivating live presence earned XANA a performance in Trifecta Music Festival 2016, which later led to her joining Trifecta’s artist collective in 2017. XANA has shared the stage with notable SK artists such as Queen City Stoop Kids, DGS Samurai Champs, and LOA. In July 2017, she played the MainStage at the Craik Festival and is currently planning to embark on her first solo tour from central to western Canada to promote her EP preceding its release. Stay tuned for XANA’s western Canada tour dates.
